Inquiry into Migrant Workers
Response from Rhondda Cynon Taf
Background
The expansion of the EU has led to an increase in Migrant Workers within Rhondda Cynon Taf, many of whom face multiple problems such as accessing services, accessing information and advice and experiencing racial harassment within the community.
As a result of the increase in Migrant Workers and the problems they are experiencing the Rhondda Cynon Taf Multi Agency Forum Against Racial Harassment has identified the need for a Migrant Workers Forum.
Aims and Objectives
- To increase both partners and public awareness of the problems migrant workers face.
- To work on a multi agency basis to provide support and advice to migrant workers.
- To provide an inclusive and effective forum where migrant workers can raise issues other than direct or individual employment issues
- To work on a multi agency basis to combat racial harassment and racist treatment of migrant workers
- To develop programmes to assist integration of migrant workers and their families in to the wider community
- To develop an action plan to deliver the above aims and objectives
Forum Membership
The membership of the Forum is open to those statutory, public, voluntary and private organisations within Rhondda Cynon Taf who support and can assist in delivering the objectives of the Forum
Forum Organisation
The Forum shall be a sub-group of the Rhondda Cynon Taf Multi Agency Forum against Racial Harassment (MAF) and shall report back to the MAF on its activities for information purposes. The MAF shall refer migrant workers issue to the Forum
The forum shall be organised and serviced by VALREC with assistance from the Equalities, Diversity & Social Justice Team at Rhondda Cynon Taf CBC.
Meetings
The Forum shall initially meet on a monthly basis, this to be reviewed after six meetings.
Officers
The Forum shall elect a Chairperson, Secretary and Vice Chairperson at its first meeting and on an annual basis thereafter.
Funding
All Forum members will seek to identify sources of funding to enable the Forum to carry out its work
