Dear Mr Grimes
Thank you for your letter requesting evidence called for by the Children and Young People Committee
in relation to its inquiry into advocacy services for children and young people in Wales.
I enclose a copy of the NASUWT’s response to the consultation document as requested at question 2.
In response to the first question, I would ask the Committee to note that the concerns the NASUWT has expressed about the need to balance the rights and responsibilities of children and young people with the rights and responsibilities of those who work with children and young people.
The NASUWT is of the firm view that the trust and confidence that needs to be built into the system has to be shared equally with those that work with children and young people.
Further, the NASUWT has made it clear that new advocacy services should be restricted to complaints relating to admissions, exclusions and statementing only.
I trust that the committee will be mindful of the concerns raised by the NASUWT in the consultation response.
Yours sincerely,
Rex Phillips
Wales Organiser
