Legislation Committee No. 4
Response to the Consultation on the National Assembly for Wales (Legislative Competence) (Education) Order 2010
Denbighshire County Council
Consultation Questions
1. What are your views on the general principle that legislative competence in the areas identified in Matters 5.2A, 5.2B and 5.2C be conferred on the National Assembly?
Response
Denbighshire County Council supports the general principle as identified in Matters 5.2A, 5.2B and 5.2C.
2. What are your views on the terms of the proposed Order? For example, are they too narrowly or too broadly drawn?
Response
Denbighshire County Council has no clear view on the terms of the proposed order.
3. Do you have any additional comments relating to the proposed Order?
Response
Denbighshire County Council notes the driver for the legislative competence order as the need to address concerns regarding the overall effectiveness and consistency of support and training for governing bodies.
Denbighshire is aware of the variation in support provided by different local authorities across Wales for Governor Support and Training. The Council requests that should the Assembly wish to define specific models of support that appropriate resource allocation is also provided to the local authority within the general Education settlement to assist the authority to implement such support without being to the detriment of general schools funding.
