Directorates

The Assembly Commission is made up of three directorates and two service areas, all of which are accountable to the Chief Executive. This section outlines the responsibilities of each Directorate area.

Assembly Business Directorate

The Assembly Business Directorate provides specialist parliamentary support to Members to ensure the efficient and effective conduct of business. It is made up of the Committee Service; the Legislation and Chamber Service; the Research Service; and the Parliamentary Translation and Reporting Service. Assembly Business
Legal Services Directorate


The Legal Service Directorate provides the following service: Advice on Bills and Legislative Consent Motions; Advice on the scope of the Assembly's powers; Scrutiny of Subordinate Legislation; General advice on legal matters; and Corporate Advice. Legal Services
C O O Directorate - Assembly Estate


The directorate of the Chief Operating Officer has responsibility for:Human resources; Finance; Information and Communications Technology; Estates and Facilities Management; Security; Corporate Planning; and Change and Programme Management. Chief Operating Officer

The Management Board comprises of the Chief Executive and Clerk of the National Assembly for Wales, the three Directors and eight heads of the different service areas within the Assembly. The Board meets on a monthly basis and is chaired by the Chief Executive. Secretariat support is provided by the Commission and Member Support Service.

The Commission and Member Support Service provides secretariat and support to the Presiding Officers, the Assembly Commission, the Chief Executive and Directors, the Commissioner for Standards, the Remuneration Board, Members’ Business Support, liaison and co-ordination of professional development opportunities for Members and their staff.

The Communications team has responsibility for leading on the National Assembly’s external and internal communications.
