Sustainability

The National Assembly for Wales aims to be exemplar in sustainability and environmental performance.  As one of the leading public institutions in Wales, we recognise our responsibility to reduce our impact on the environment and operate in an environmentally responsible manner in all our activities.

The National Assembly for Wales is committed to reducing its impact on the environment. As part of our strategy for the Fourth Assembly, we recognise the importance of incorporating sustainability considerations into our work.

The Assembly recognises that it needs to manage its environmental impacts to be more efficient, reduce environmental risk and save money. We realise that we need to inspire, influence and engage our workforce to support the sustainability programme across the Assembly.

Our sustainability strategy is shaped by our Corporate Values. Working sustainably is fundamental to the Assembly’s core strategic aims and clearly defines our intentions of achieving our aspiration to be an exemplary organisation in sustainability and environmental stewardship.

Overall responsibility for sustainability and the environment rests with the Chief Executive Officer (CEO), Claire Clancy. The CEO together with the Commissioner for Sustainability take responsibility for approving the Assembly’s environmental policy.

We have been publicly reporting our greenhouse gas emissions since 2007/08 to ensure our performance and the resultant emissions generated by our activities are reported and accounted for in a transparent and consistent way.

We’re committed to reporting the sustainability performance of the National Assembly for Wales both transparently and accessibly.
