Projects and workshops

The Outreach Team work with a range of organisations and stakeholders across Wales on a local and national level delivering presentations and workshops to encourage understanding of and engagement with the Assembly.

The Outreach team aims to ensure that citizens across Wales have an understanding of who represents them, the legislative process, how the Assembly holds the Welsh Government to account and the engagement opportunities available to them.

We create and maintain partnerships with organisations across Wales. Each partnership created is unique to the organisation and is based on their aims and objectives.

Here are some recent examples of organisations we have worked with:

Scouts Wales

The National Assembly for Wales began working with Scouts Wales in 2009 and in 2012 a formal partnership was formed in order to support the development of Scouts of all ages across Wales to achieve the Democracy Challenge Badge. The Democracy Challenge Badge is the first of its kind for Scouts organisations in the UK. It encourages young people to explore and learn about the democratic processes of the United Kingdom, Wales and Welsh Local Authorities, to ensure that they are better placed to make their own judgements in the future and to take part in democracy. For more information visit our Democracy Challenge Badge page.

Women Making a Difference

The Women Making a Difference project was established in 2005 with the aim of encouraging more women to become involved in public life. The Outreach team have been working closely with Women Making a Difference over the past five years to support them in this goal. We work closely to provide information and hold workshops to groups all over Wales in order to equip these groups with the skills and knowledge to reach their goals. To learn more visit the Women Making a Difference website.

Stroke Association

The Stroke Association approached the National Assembly for Wales noting that they were eager to learn more about the work of the Assembly and who represents them. They stated that they were hoping to better understand how to get involved in the Assembly's processes. The Outreach Team has been out to groups of the Stroke Association giving presentations and providing further support to facilitate the organisation's understanding of how to contact and engage with the Assembly most effectively. To learn more visit the Stroke Association website.

Working with Assembly Committees and engaging with the public

The Outreach Team regularly support committee business during their inquiry and consultation process, engaging with members of the public and stakeholders across Wales to discuss proposed changes to law and policy, which may directly affect them.

Evidence gathered through methods such as focus group sessions, video interviews or questionnaires, is presented to the committee as evidence for their consultation. These methods of engagement allow individuals to be involved in the process and participate in a way which they may not have done otherwise.

The Outreach team has produced an Engagement Toolkit which is used by the team when planning engagement activity such as focus groups, web-chats, events and surveys. The toolkit has been created following use of these engagement methods by the team and resulting evaluation work. The Toolkit contains information such as description and purpose, cost, time considerations and strengths and weaknesses for each engagement method. Research by organisations like Participation Cymru, PeopleandParticipation.net, The Big Lottery Fund and The Chartered Institute for Public Relations has also contributed to its creation.
