Hello. My name is Gareth Jones and I am the Plaid Cymru Assembly Member for the new constituency of Aberconwy. I was born and educated in Blaenau Ffestiniog and graduated from the University of Wales in Swansea as a geography teacher.

Later I became head teacher of Ysgol John Bright in Llandudno where I have lived for over 30 years with my wife Myra and family. In my political career, I have been leader of Plaid Cymru on Conwy County Borough Council, a Cabinet Member and the Council's deputy Leader. In the First Assembly from 1999, I was the Assembly Member for Conwy, Shadow Minister for Education and Chair of the Education Committee.

Now in this Third Assembly I am Chair of the Enterprise and Learning Committee. Our role is to ensure the Plaid-Labour coalition delivers it's agreed programme for government. My political interests lie in helping people young and old get the right skills and opportunities for well-paid, sustainable jobs and careers with affordable housing and a transport system fit for the 21st century.

These are serious challenges for us in the rural community of the Conwy Valley, where we also have to safeguard the future of our Welsh language and culture; and I want to see a thriving Llandudno hospital at the heart of our local NHS services.

I look forward to serving the people of Aberconwy and Wales over the next 4 years.
