Well hello. My name is Mark Isherwood, Assembly Member for North Wales and member of the Welsh Conservative Party. I live in Flintshire in a village called Pontybodkin near Mold. I have a family with six children. My wife, Hilary, is actually a County Councillor in Flintshire for the Llanfynydd ward.
Before coming to the Assembly I was employed as a building society area manager in North Wales. I was also a Community Councillor, a school governor and at one stage chairman of the local school governors. I was a voluntary member of a housing association which provides social housing for people and also chairman of my local Round Table so I've had quite a wide variety of experience.
I arrived at the Assembly first in 2003 and was re-elected as a Regional Member in May 2007. I'm my party's spokesperson for social justice, for equal opportunities and for housing. Social justice covers a whole variety of different areas from housing through to the Fire and Rescue Service, including all the voluntary sector, youth justice, community regeneration and very much more.
Equal opportunities is focussed on ensuring just that, equal opportunities for everybody removing barriers to access and inclusion for all, based on disability, race, gender, sexuality, age, religion or belief or whether you are and English or Welsh first language speaker in a bilingual Wales. In that role I sit on two Committees in the Assembly: the Communities and Culture Committee and the Equal Opportunities Committee which helps keep me and of course, my colleagues very busy.
