Hello my name is Michael German and I’m the leader of the Welsh Liberal Democrats here at the National Assembly for Wales. I am also the Assembly Member for South Wales East, that’s Newport, Chepstow up to Merthyr Tydfil, basically the old county of Gwent plus Merthyr Tydfil.
I was first elected to the National Assembly for Wales in 1999 and I was elected to be the leader of our party in the year before that by members of our party together. Since 1999 I’ve been partly in opposition and partly in government. I have been Deputy First Minister for Wales and I also held the Rural Development and Wales International portfolios as well as Minister for Economic Development.
